Protect Yourself from Fraud and Scams During the COVID-19 Emergency

Sin Deudas, Sin Dudas is an initiative created by Tzedek DC to help DC Latinos access free legal assistance, credit management help, and critical information about frauds and scams. For more information about this initiative, click here.

During the period of coronavirus emergency and in the months following, DC residents should be on special alert for the many frauds and scams that are looking to take advantage of you. There are more and more each day, but be on the lookout in particular for:

  • Social media scams asking for donations or claiming they will send you special government emergency funds if you give them your bank information.

  • Individuals who try to sell you COVID-19 test kits, cures, or pills.

  • Anyone who tries to get your Medicare beneficiary information. (Reports say this information is being used to submit false medical claims in your name.)

Do you want to learn more about these types of fraud and scams in Spanish? Click here for helpful resources from the DC Office of the Attorney General. At that link you can also learn about your rights and how to report scams.

If you have already been the victim of a fraud or scam, Tzedek DC is here to help. We have the resources to provide assistance in Spanish or English. Contact us at (202) 274-7386 or email us at ms@tzedekdc.org.
