Hannah Milem
Georgetown Justice Fellow
Hannah Milem is a Georgetown Justice Fellow at Tzedek DC whose project focuses on economic harm stemming from contact with the criminal legal system. The project seeks to safeguard the legal rights and financial health of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated DC residents and their families who face debt-related problems.
During law school, Hannah worked as a student attorney with Georgetown Law’s Civil Rights Clinic on cases involving police brutality and community surveillance, earning the Associate Dean's Award for Excellence in Clinic. During her summers, she worked as an intern with Tzedek DC, then as a law clerk at the Civil Division of the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia. Hannah was a member of the Georgetown Journal of Poverty Law and Policy and served as Treasurer for the Georgetown Law chapter of the National Lawyers Guild. Prior to attending law school, Hannah worked as a financial counselor providing consumer education and one-on-one support to clients in Boston and New York. In New York, Hannah also worked as a fair housing investigator with Long Island Housing Services, assisting in the enforcement of fair housing laws and investigating instances of housing discrimination.
Hannah received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Harvard University. She is an Accredited Financial Counselor through the Association for Financial Counseling & Planning Education (AFCPE). She graduated from Georgetown University Law Center with Exceptional Pro Bono Pledge Recognition for completing over 200 hours of pro bono service.
Hannah’s bar license application is pending in the District of Columbia.
