Jorge Tormes
Associate Director
Jorge Tormes is an Associate Director at Tzedek DC and has been part of the Tzedek DC team since November 2020. During that time, he has represented DC residents in consumer related legal matters, led the ¡Sin Deudas, Sin Dudas Project!, and facilitated community education workshops on consumer related legal matters, in both English and Spanish. Jorge supervises Tzedek DC Staff Attorneys and Financial Counselors, and oversees Tzedek DC’s community outreach and education efforts.
Jorge started his legal career as an Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Legal Fellow at Three River Legal Services. He worked on a wide variety of cases representing and advising clients in consumer, landlord-tenant, foreclosure, family law, sealing and expunction, and estate planning matters.
After completing his two-year Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Fellowship, Jorge took a position at the Florida Guardian ad Litem Program where he advocated for the best interest of children in the child welfare system. As an attorney with the Florida Guardian ad Litem Program, Jorge gained significant litigation skills actively litigating dependency and termination of parental rights cases. Jorge spent nine years with the Florida Guardian Ad Litem Program, starting as a Program Attorney, then a Senior Program Attorney, and finally being promoted to Lead Attorney.
Immediately prior to starting at Tzedek, Jorge was VP of Commercial Operations and In-House Legal Counsel at JTG Consulting, LLC, Jorge advised senior leadership, on legal matters, drafted and negotiated contracts, drafted employee policies and procedures, and ensured compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations.
Jorge graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida International University majoring in Political Science and Religious Studies in 2004. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Florida, Levin College of Law in 2007. Jorge is licensed to practice law in Florida and the District of Columbia.
