Josh Levin joined Tzedek DC as a Volunteer Staff Attorney in 2019, after a long career with the United States Department of Justice’s Environment & Natural Resources Division. There, Josh was a Senior Trial Attorney who represented and advised EPA, DOD and other federal agencies on a wide range of environmental law and policy matters. For seven years, Josh was also a member of the Office of Legal Policy’s Judicial Nominations Working Group, where he contributed to DOJ’s screening of Article III judicial nominees. At Tzedek DC, Josh co-manages legislative and policy challenges to D.C’s “Clean Hands” law, which now prevents thousands of low-income residents from renewing their driver’s licenses because of unpaid city debt. Josh also works on federal litigation associated with immigration policy and the impacts of COVID-19 on DC residents with low incomes. Previously, Josh was also an investigative reporter and a staff member with the U.S. Senate Governmental Affairs Committee. Josh is a graduate of Northwestern University School of Law. He has an M.P.A from the University of Texas at Austin, and attended Oberlin College. Josh is admitted to the bar in the District of Columbia and Illinois.
