The No Debts, No Doubts project at Tzedek DC empowers members of the DC community with training and legal services, in their native language, as tools designed to strengthen their financial health in the short- and long-term.

Our team includes lawyers and advisors who value the community and understand the role that stress and frustration play in making people feel worse about already difficult situations. We speak Spanish, and each person we empower inspires us as we work from day to day, in spite of and especially during the pandemic.

Through No Debts, No Doubts, we offer the low- to moderate income communities of DC the following services at no cost.

Community Education

WorkshopS

Our workshops, in person (when public health rules allow) and via Zoom, include such topics as:

  • What you can do to keep from being fooled by scammers.

  • How the credit system works in the U.S.

  • How to prevent identity theft, and what to do if it’s already happened to you.

  • Your rights as a consumer with regard to debt collection.

Alerts

We issue alerts via the conventional media and social platforms to keep you informed about:

  • Changes in the law that impact debt collection.

  • The most common scams reported by consumers.

  • Changes in the law that affect your credit situation or your rights as a consumer.

Legal and Financial Counseling

  • We help you negotiate with your creditors to arrive at the most viable solution and, sometimes, even to have the case dismissed.

  • We prepare you for presenting your case in court.

  • We help you evaluate your financial situation and manage your credit situation.

  • We pull your credit report and help you resolve incorrect information.

  • We help you investigate scams and possible identity theft.

Legal Representation

Regardless of your citizenship status, our lawyers are here to represent you in court, in many cases without you having to be physically present in court yourself.

The process is completely confidential; further, Tzedek DC does not ask about documentation status, and when we learn such information it is treated as confidential.

Referrals

If it turns out you that you don’t qualify for our services – be it because of your income or because you don’t live in DC – we will help connect you to organizations or agencies in your community.
