Sarah Hollender
Deputy Director
Sarah Hollender is the Deputy Director at Tzedek DC.
Since joining in 2017, she has played a pivotal role in the organization’s impact and growth, including shaping and supervising public and private grants management, ensuring the effective and efficient supervision of staff, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. She has represented or supervised the representation of thousands of individual debt collection cases on behalf of the organization’s clients.
Sarah has an extensive background in civil legal aid. Before joining Tzedek DC, she represented clients in consumer debt, eviction defense, housing repair cases, shelter fair hearings, and benefits advocacy as a staff attorney in the Brooklyn Defender Services Civil Justice Unit. She was an attorney in Tenants' Rights Unit of the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG), and, as an Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Legal Fellow in NYLAG’s Storm Response Unit, assisted survivors of Superstorm Sandy with FEMA appeals, FEMA recoupments, consumer debt, contractor fraud cases, landlord-tenant matters, and storm recovery issues. She was a post-graduate legal fellow at the Pace Community Law Practice, where she assisted low- and middle-income clients with civil legal issues. She interned in the immigration unit of the Legal Aid Society, worked as an intern with the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, and aided in fair housing testing as an intern at Westchester Residential Opportunities, Inc.
Sarah graduated from Pace University School of Law and is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia and New York. She serves on the Board of DC Refers.
